Millicent Omanga: A Dynamic Force in Kenyan Politics and BusinessMillicent Omanga, fondly known as "Mama Miradi," is a prominent Kenyan politician, businesswoman, and philanthropist who has left an indelible mark on the public sphere. Born on May 30, 1982, in Kisii County, Omanga grew up in Rongai, Kajiado, in a family of seven daughters. Her early life was marked by resilience; after losing her father at 17, she faced financial challenges but pursued education at Mumbi Girls High School and later studied journalism and commerce at the University of Nairobi. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish Milways Enterprises, a successful venture in construction, interior design, and furniture importation.Omanga’s political journey began in 2013 when she was appointed a director at Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), a role she credits to President William Ruto’s support. In 2017, she ran for Nairobi’s Women Representative seat under the Jubilee Party but lost to Esther Passaris. Despite this, she was nominated as a senator, serving until 2022. Omanga attempted the Women Representative seat again in 2022 under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) but was unsuccessful. Her political career has been characterized by loyalty to Ruto, though it has also sparked controversy, including her 2020 snub of a Jubilee Party meeting, which led to disciplinary scrutiny.Beyond politics, Omanga’s vibrant personality and social media presence have made her a polarizing yet influential figure. In 2023, she topped Google’s most-searched Kenyan personalities, reflecting her widespread appeal. Recently, she declined an appointment to the Nairobi Rivers Commission but accepted a role on the Local Authorities Provident Fund Board in November 2024. Married to Dr. Francis Nyamiobo and a mother of two, Omanga balances family, business, and public life with unwavering determination, cementing her status as a trailblazer in Kenyan society.
