Luhya Powerhouse Group (LPG) Fundraiser Ignites Hopes for Karuras First Community Matatu
Unity and Ambition as LPG Transitions from Welfare to Investment Group_ Over 10 Leaders, and 300 plus members Turn UP.
By LPG Media Desk | May 11, 2026Gachie — The Luhya Powerhouse Group (LPG) took a major step towards economic empowerment on Sunday, May 10, 2026, as it successfully held a colorful fundraiser at Gachie Baptist Church that raised more than KSh 400,000.
The funds will support the group’s strategic transition from a welfare-oriented self-help group into a vibrant investment entity focused on business ventures and job creation for its members. Primary project is a venture into a 31-seater matatu business.
The event, which attracted a large turnout, was graced by several political heavyweights and aspirants in Westlands constituency, Nairobi. Chief Guest was prominent businessman and leader Mr. Ibrahim Kulundu, who delivered a powerful message on unity, self-reliance, and economic progress among the Luhya community in the diaspora and Nairobi.MP aspirants Simbala Richard and Jesse Munene attended in person and pledged their support for the group’s vision. Mike Mayo Gumo, sent generous contributions although he was unable to attend.

Local leadership was also well represented with Karura Ward MCA aspirants Griffins Lidahuli (popularly known as Microbe), Simon Awene, and Robert Odiya turning up to show solidarity. Sister groups within the community that equally attended includes Power, River Road Gichagi (PORIGI) and Kisii's' Hapo Kwa Hapo. Speakers at the event emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among community members. They urged the group to remain focused as it ventures into income-generating projects. There was also a strong call for intensified voter registration, with leaders reminding attendees to prepare for the 2027 General Election.Speaking to the media after the fundraiser, LPG officials expressed gratitude to all donors and dignitaries, saying the funds will be used prudently to acquire equipment and kick-start business initiatives for the group.“This is not just about money. This is about coming together as one people to build a strong economic foundation for our youth and families,” one of the leaders said.
The colorful event featured traditional Isukuti dance, Luhya music, dance, and testimonies from group members, creating an atmosphere of hope and renewed purpose.
With the successful fundraiser, Luhya Powerhouse Group now joins a growing list of community-based organizations in Westlands and Nairobi shifting focus towards sustainable investment and wealth creation.The group leadership promised to keep members and the public updated on how the funds will be utilized in the coming weeks.
