MOTHER NATURE OR VANDALS? EYEBROWS RAISED AFTER A NEWLY COMMISIONED BRIDGE IS DAMAGED OVERNIGHT

Celebrations were cut short among the residents of Kaisomo and Chesongo, in Baringo central, after a commissioned community funded bridge was destroyed overnight.

The bridge, which was launched on  11th May, by Dr Milkah Toromo, is crucial in linking the two villages over River Chesongo. The bridge was set up in order to ease movement and enhance safety for school going children and interconnectivity of over 300 residents.

The project which was funded by the efforts of the community with the support of Dr Milkah, was tagged at providing safer access for locals, notably during the long rains, that make the river impassable, upon flooding.

Unfortunately, residents woke up to a destroyed structure, an event that occurred under unclear circumstances. Most residents have been left speechless, others cursing the incidence.

Locals remain divided over the unexpected event, with some blaming goons on vandalizing the bridge, while others pointed to extreme heavy rainfall that was experienced all night long, with the bridge alluded to be poorly constructed.

Questions have been raised over the quality of workmanship and durability of the structure, arguing that a properly built bridge should have withstood the flooded riverbeds.

The unfortunate incident has once again exposed the urgent need for durable and permanent bridge infrastructure in flood prone areas across Baringo county to guarantee safe and reliable transport for residents.

Locals are now calling for the intervention from National Government to invest in modern, long lasting infrastructure solutions, to aid in the wellbeing of residents.
